We were show around two villages who both use the same technique to cast. The wax item to be cast is covered in a slip made out of termite / ant hill mud and then let to dry. A thicker layer of clay is then built up around this. This forms the mould. They are dried in the sun and then put in a fire so that the wax is melted out leaving a void for the hot metal to be poured in to. I love the shape of the moulds, they are sculptures in their own right in my mind and something I will explore making in the future!
