Today was fun! …the mini oxhide ingots were all cast in to a sand mould . In this the layers are made up in a resin bonded sand then glued together so that multiple small pieces can be cast at once. The mould was also buried in rammed green sand and had weights on it to prevent it popping open.
The pure copper took a bit longer to get liquid but poured very nicely. The results were beautiful and next need cutting off the running system and the edges fettling.
I enjoy the look of the casting with all the mini oxhide ingots attached to the running system still. It seems a nice mix of ancient and modern in the sense that they have now almost become mass produced.
Thanks to Cole’s castings for working with me
On this experimental pour!
